Soon, Barhalaam became an abbot of the caves. The first church, built un- der his patronage, was the "foundation" of the Great Lavra. After knyaz Izias- lav completed the monastery of Demet- rUks, the marttur, Barhalaam was called to run it. At the end of his life Bar- halaam visited some sacred places- Con- stantinopolis and Jerusalem. On his way to the Vladimir town he died. His re- lics was transfered to the caves of Kiev Lavra.
